NEW YORK MAN OWES LIFE TO BLOOD DONORS FOLLOWING HORRIFIC ACCIDENT. I wish more blood banks would do this kind of outreach—without it, donation can seem so abstract as to seem pointless, if you've never donated previously.

In the experiments, immunological rejection caused the transplanted hearts in the mice to fail on average after just eight days. However, by playing Verdi's La Traviata to the mice, their transplanted hearts reportedly continued to function for as long as 26.5 days on average. Works by Mozart also worked well, keeping their hearts ticking for 20 days on average...
